BoardEffect® Features

BoardEffect® is an online portal that provides unique tools and features for boards of directors.  Designed to facilitate good governance, BoardEffect® includes the following features:

Board Home

This dashboard view provides a quick glance of board activity.  In the Board Home, you can:

  • Create a customized “Welcome Message” for your board members
  • Review your Task List, and create new tasks for yourself and others
  • Prepare for a Meeting by downloading an online Board Briefing Book
  • Review the Board Manual – including your organization’s by-laws, policies, and more
  • Send Email to board members, or to an entire committee
  • Respond to an RSVP request – to help finalize a date for a meeting or event
  • Respond to a Poll, designed to get quick feedback from board members on important issues
  • Review and create News and Announcements
  • Participate in a conference call and share documents using the Conference Call Assistant
  • Participate in an online Discussion, or start a new topic

Committee Workroom

Each committee has its own Committee Workroom where members can share documents and collaborate.  You will have access to the workrooms of each committee you join.  In the Committee Workroom, you can:

  • Read the Committee Welcome Message which can easily be customized by the Committee Chair
  • See a list of Recently Updated Files to the committee workroom – automatically created as files are added to the workroom
  • Review the list of Committee Events, including meetings
  • See a list of Committee Members, and Email one or all of them from within the committee workroom
  • Participate in an online Committee Discussion or Conference Call
  • Save documents to a private Committee-Only Folder or share them in the Board-Wide Folder
  • Create Tasks for the committee --- yourself, or any individual committee member

Development

The Development Dashboard offers board members a snapshot of the income side of your organization’s finances.  The dashboard offers the totals raised through donations, grant funds, contracts, special events, and earned revenue.  The Development Dashboard also allows board members to see the percentage of the total goal reached, and to perform year-to-year comparisons.  Easy to update and review, the dashboard provides motivation for board members to help your organization reach its fundraising goals.

Directory

The Directory is a quick and easy way to help board members get to know one another and network.  With both an “At-a-Glance” view and a “Full Profile” view, the Directory offers easy access to contact information, biographies, photos, and more.  The Directory is fully searchable, including searches by keyword, committee, and board role.  Board members or a system administrator can update profiles.  A printable version of the directory is available for those who want the directory on paper.  In addition, a Board Summary Report that provides a quick summary of your board's membership, including the number of members, a committee breakdown, and more is available.

Calendar

The Board Action Calendar is fully searchable, and simple to use.  The calendar is color-coded to help your board stay organized.  Dates for meetings and events listed in BoardEffect® can be synchronized with your personal calendar software.  In addition, any RSVPs that have been finalized will automatically appear on the calendar.

Resource Library

The Resource Library offers convenient, secure online storage for all of your organization’s important documents.  The Resource Library is the perfect place to store:

  • Articles of Incorporation and By-Laws
  • Board Meeting Minutes
  • Print Collateral – brochures, letterhead, etc.
  • Committee Documents
  • Evaluations – board performance evaluations, performance appraisals of the organization’s executive, etc.
  • Mission & History documents
  • New Board Member Orientation materials
  • Board Policies
  • Programs & Organizational Charts
  • Strategic Plans
  • Website Links

To help your board embrace best practices, BoardEffect® includes the BoardSource® “The Nonprofit Policy Sampler, 2nd Edition,”: a set of sample policies and guidelines to enhance your board’s effectiveness.  As you review and set policies, the Policy Sampler will be at your fingertips to offer guidance and examples that you can use for inspiration or adapt for your own use.
